Clash Of Ideology

Now some Scientists and artists had come out against the increasing intolerance in the society. They are complaining about the systematic spread of intolerance. Hundreds of Artists, curators, issued a strogly worded statement. Lots of scients from many academaic institutions started an online peteition addressed to President of India, saying that they are in agreement to the writers who have returned the Sahitya Academy Awards

So the Contemporary literary scenario of Indian languages is divided over returning the award of Sahitya Akademi by the writers. Those who have returned the award are blaming the central government of inaction against the culprits of murdering of Prof MM Kalburgi. Apart from that they are also worried about the stoic silence of the Prime Minister over the killing of a Muslim boy Akhlaq in a village in Noida. First, Uday Prakash returned his Sahitya Akademi Award and Nayantara Sehgal and Ashok Vajpayee followed. It was an excellent and well thought of move by the writers. But, Ashok Vajpayee did a mistake and made it political. Uday Prakash while returning the award of Sahitya Akademi made it clear that he was very much disturbed by the killing of Kalburgi, Pansare and Dabholkar.
The moment Akhlaq’s murder brought in, BJP and RSS smell the move and started counter attack. The leaders of BJP and people affiliated to RSS started digging the past of the writers. It was widely known in Hindi literature circle that Uday Prakash received an award from the controversial BJP MP. Questions were raised on that award. The pictures of that award ceremony gone viral on social media. This has damaged the secular credentials of Uday Prakash.
The writers who initially returned the Sahitya Akademi Award alleged that the Akademi did not bother to organize a condolence meeting after the murder of MM Kalburgi. The silence of Akademi created an atmosphere against the working of its president. Later, it was clarified by the Akademi that a big condolence meeting of Kalburgi was held at Bangalore. The basic premise of protest was got neutralized.
Now, if we analyze the protest of Akademi Award winners, it is crystal clear that this is a fight of getting hold on cultural and literature organization. The left party supported Indira Gandhi during emergency and in return Indira Gandhi handed over all cultural organizations to left scholars. Over a period of time, those leftists flourished under the patronage of Congress party. They enjoyed their fiefdom over the cultural organization. For almost three decades being a leftist was license for being secular and progressive. Even those who pretend to be leftist got the privilege of being nominated to these organizations. Those progressive people started behaving like cultural despot and don’t even gave a chance of alternate views to survive.
Now cut to the present scenario. It was first time after independence that an alternate party formed the government at Centre on its own. Bhartiya Janata Party got the majority under the leadership of Narendra Modi. Before that Atal Bihari Vajpayee also formed the government but that it was on life support of more than two dozen parties. Narendra Modi government is not on the life support system. Narendra Modi is also different from Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
After the government formation, Bhartiya Janata Party started asserting in the appointments of the head of the cultural organizations. The left leaning people are being removed by the right wingers. Here, the clash of interest started. The so-called progressive writers and academicians have started their protest. When rightists were appointed as the head of Indian Council of historical research, a major hue and cry happened. It was alleged that this government wants to rewrite the history of the country. It was also publicized that Vice Chancellors of Central Universities are being appointed after getting the nod from Keshav Kunj, the RSS office in Delhi. It was also alleged that Narendra Modi Government wants to saffronise the great institutions built over a period of time. Articles were written that saffron party doesn’t have the talent pool to fill those coveted posts.
But, again the same question arises that it is the government of the day who appoints the people of their choice. Is it not a foolish demand that Modi government appoint the people who are against them or against their ideology. So the protest of the writers is seen in the light of above facts. They are losing patience and hope and this action of theirs is the outcome of that impatience and hopelessness.
The reason for this so called protest of writers under the veil of threat to freedom of speech is the central government’s another action. This action is banning the foreign funding of many NGO’s. A trough investigation is needed on the foreign funding pattern of some of the cultural organizations. It is widely believed that some of the writers are associated with the organizations which were funded by Ford foundation and other funding agencies. It is a known fact that many of the progressive intellectuals enjoyed the hospitality of these agencies. They enjoyed the longer foreign trips for attending the seminars etc.
After the Central government started tightening the rope, the progressive Jamat started fighting back. The best way to question this government is to raise the question of security of minorities. The progressive champions of the minorities took a position and started firing on the governments. The ammunition was provided by Sakshi Maharaj, Prachi and Mahesh Sharma.
The murder of Akhlaq is not acceptable in any democratic setup. Not only the murder of Akhlaq but any murder in Gandhi land is blot on the society. But at the same time, politicizing the murder is also a crime… Some progressive ideologue is giving murder of Akhlaq a communal color, this is also a sin in a secular democratic country like ours. This is crystal clear that it is a clash of ideology and not the protest against freedom of speech. We can also add that this is clash of ideology mixed with self-interest.After the Central government started tightening the rope, the progressive Jamat started fighting back.
